Consumers prefer foods without added preservatives and sweeteners that might negatively impact their health, leading to essential changes in their lifestyles and diets. The prevalence of diabetes has increased over the years, and obesity is considered one of the major factors for the same. Organic food is also witnessing higher demand globally due to its rich nutrient value. The extreme decline in the consumption of processed foods has stimulated the organic food market. The food and beverages industry is governed very strictly by regulatory bodies. Organizations like EPA, FTC, FDA, and OSHA have been diligent in implementing norms concerning the release of healthy products, supervising food labels, maintaining a clean, hygienic environment, and the like. However, the regular changes subject to raw material, waste disposal, food quality, documentation, surplus production, etc., have cropped up as one of the major challenges faced by the food and beverage market.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the food and beverage sector adversely, with nationwide lockdowns prohibiting employees from working in factories, leading to supply chain disruptions. People also started panic buying due to extended lockdown, creating further food shortages and a major gap between those who can afford to stockpile items and those who cannot.

The increasing impact of global warming and climate change is another challenge faced by the food and beverage industry. Climate change is responsible for rising temperatures, erratic weather patterns, and natural disasters such as floods, droughts, and hurricanes, which can affect the growth of crops and food production. To address these challenges, food and beverage companies are investing in sustainable agriculture practices and renewable energy sources. For example, Coca-Cola has set a target of reducing its carbon footprint by 25% by 2025, while Nestle aims to achieve zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

The food and beverage industry is facing several challenges, both old and new.
